The glaring afternoon sun beats down on the track. The drivers wait anxiously in their seats, poised for action. Each believes that he can win here today, fulfil his destiny and be crowned the best of the best. F1? No, it’s the 2008 Oris Go-Kart Championship!
Hosted at Sepang, the Malaysian Grand Prix Go-Kart circuit in Kuala Lumpur, the “Racetrack Superstar” event has become a highlight in the calendars of journalists and Oris’ guests from Malaysia and Singapore. This year’s event was timed to coincide with the launch of the new Oris WilliamsF1 Team collection watches.
The new Day Date and Chronograph models were on display as the drivers took to the track for the ten lap team endurance race. Ten teams of ten battled it out for top spot, and there was also a chance for the fastest individual to win a replica Nico Rosberg helmet for the fastest lap of the day.
With the track temperature exceeding 40°C as the afternoon wore on it was an intense competition. The eventual winners cooled down on the podium afterwards with a traditional F1 style champagne shower.
Paul Phua, General Manager of Oris’ Malaysian affiliate Swiss Prestige, commented: “Oris has worked with the AT&T Williams Formula One team designers to produce F1 inspired watches since our partnership began five years ago. Today we’ve given our guests the opportunity to see and work with the new Oris Williams collection, to experience the thrill of F1 and to feel like a Racetrack Superstar!”
